Great Ship Poor Service by A Traveler from Newport Beach, CA

Pros:

Food and Ship accomidations

Cold Hot Tub; No steam Sauna, poor service; long checkin

Embarcation took over 1 1/2 hrs; very slow processing even after we showed up at their recommended time; Did not see the cabin steward until the second day, had to call room service to get ice; Dinning room was extremly slow the first 3 times, finally found a good server; Hot tob was just warm bath water and they have it set that way to save money! Steam sauna is an extra $119, normally it is included in other cruise lines; Many of teh crew had no idea how to answer your question or gace you the wrong answer and you ended up on the wrong end of the ship; Cigeratte smoke came into the Stardust theater. choke! choke! Volumne was also too loud on the crooner and we had to get up and leave. Only good part was the food was some of the best we have had on any cruise line (4 cruise lines and 22 sailings). Room was very nice for a mini suite. Would not use them again due to hot tub/steam shower problems and for the poor service.

Credit card linked to cabin room

Overall the experience was very good just that the cabin could've been vacuumed before having us onboard. I also didn't like how they ask for a credit card linked to your cabin number because I got a bunch of wary charges. Cash payers should be charged housekeeping fees and tip for the whole trip before boarding the ship to avoid such a mess. Instead, cash payers have to leave $100 deposit and then it's a mess to try to get it back. Luckily it worked out well but it's headache that could've been avoided.

Many different entertainment venues and a lot of different activities always going on on the ship. Was completely amazed by this! There was always something to do for everyone!!!

The staff on the excursions

The dining experience on the Norwegian pearl

The ship was well maintained and very clean they had an army of staff whose only function it seemed was to clean this resulted in a beautiful shp for the passengers and was the highlight of the ship. There was plenty to do and the entertainment staff was great.

The ship itself was well maintained clean and very nice. However I was less than impressed with the food on the ship as well as the waitstaff in the dining rooms on the ship. I traveled with my family and there were several instances where the waitstaff was down right rude to us. My mother requested a bit of horseradish from our waiter whose response was to roll his eyes at us. In my opinion the waitstaff on the boat has no incentive to to serve their dinner guests. You do to have the same server at each meal. This in my opinion resulted in a waitstaff who did not adequately care about their guests dining experience and or requests. This coupled with the poor food on the ship resulted in a lot of eating out on shore whenever we had the opportunity. We did not eat in any of the pay or a la carte dining areas as we were worried that based on our experience in the main dining and buffet areas we would be very disappointed and have wasted our money.

Stateroom Quality

Stateroom was very comfortable and our cabin steward went out of his way to learn our names and keep our stateroom neat and tidy. The only down side was the outside window was a bit dirty obscuring the view from the stateroom a bit which I felt was a little below par on an Alaskan cruise where the main point of the cruise is to enjoy the scenery and since it is pretty cold outside some of the time. However, the seas were pretty rough on this trip and I do not remember if the windows was that way at the start of the trip or got that way through the course of the week.

Ship Staff Quality

For the most part the staff was unprofessional and rude with the exception of our cabin steward Max and the young lady who stood outside the garden cafe each morning saying " happy happy washy washy" and spraying your hands with disinfectant. Her enthusiasm was contagious.

Entertainment & Activities

We attended several shows and participated in various entertainment activities on the ship each one that we attended was fun and entertaining.

Alaska in Late May on Norwegian Pearl by Greg D from Bowlng Green, KY

Very well maintained ship with a very helpful crew. Loved the freestyle dining without having to dress up. Lines at the Garden Cafe buffet were a bit overwhelming the first day and breakfast buffet seating at peak times was almost impossible without a scout to find a table and hold it while the others in our party foraged. Our cabin steward, Ricardo, was always attentive and helpful, as was everyone on the Pearl.

The art in the stairwells was always interesting when we'd explore a new part of the ship. Someone was always cleaning to keep it nice, even the outside was washed daily. Three stairwells equally spaced and placards with locations throughout the ship helped us find our way that first few days.

Dining/Food

Food was good and plentiful but with the buffet in the Garden Cafe, peak times were annoying. We ate at the sit down restaurants for most evening meals and those were pleasant, relaxed experiences.

Stateroom Quality

On a ship, space is at a premium and if you are in your stateroom too much, you are wasting your time. We had a balcony stateroom between mid and aft stairwells on the starboard side, deck 11. For 2 people it was spacious, for 3 it was a little tight, especially with a young adult that spreads out a lot more. I liked the layout and enjoyed the balcony. Nothing like having your own viewing deck for watching for whales and glaciers.

Ship Staff Quality

Everyone was immensely helpful. The washy-washy girls were always very chipper. Our cabin steward, Ricardo, always had a cute folded towel animal for us to enjoy when we returned from a shore excursion. Getting off at port upon docking was about the only downside. If your shore excursion was any time close to the docking time, you had lots of company for the cattle crowded lines to disembark.

Entertainment & Activities

We didn't see the broadway type shows but did see the comedian, magician and the second city troupe. We also watched the ranger presentation on the park and glaciers. The game shows were funny and killed some time while at sea.

Wonderful Experience by A Traveler from Glen Mills, Pa.

The ship was spotless and in good condition throughout. People were constatnly making things perfect.

My first cruise was amazing by anna g from e peoria Il

Pros:

the staff were very friendly and made you feel like royalty

The ship was beautiful inside. The staff was amazing. Our steward Barry was the best. The best rosemary chicken too. I did not wanna leave the ship. The only recommendation is the paint on the outside of boat could be improved.

A Fantastic Escape by J Rick from San Diego, CA

Food choices, entertainment, variety of land excursions offered

Some of the land tours included extremely packed vehicles

This was a great cruise. The staff onboard were all professional and extremely friendly. There were a huge selection of dining options and, best of all, you can eat at just about any time you desire. There is no specific seating time for meals and no assigned tables. This is so much better!

A good trip to Tulum, but a huge number of people going on four large buses. Our guide was great, but some very bold pressure for tips throughout the one hour journey back to the ship.

Don't Miss: Be sure to see Tulum if you have not yet seen it

George Town, Grand Cayman

I selected a general island overview sightseeing trip but the original company selected to conduct that tour was a disaster! Finally a NCL rep switched companies and, after a 1 1/2 hour delay, the new company did a great job and did not shorten the trip. All participants were also given a 50% rebate on the fee we paid - which I feel was very honest.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

I selected a tour of the countryside surrounding Ocho Rios and it was a very enjoyable and worthwhile excursion offering a great "feel" for Jamaica

Nice Cruise by A Traveler from NY, N"Y

Friendly staff, everything is taken care off

Cons:

Ports of call were very commercial... NCL or other cruise operators owned all the shops... The people at some of the ports oulcn't afford to eat but there wre diamond stores everywhere...

It was a nice ship but everything was geared toward the older crowd... nothing for young children...

Excellent cruise on the NCL Pearl by Larry L from USA

I would just add this comment which may differ from other experiences. I developed a kidney stone on the second day and went to the ship's infirmary. The doctors and nurses provided excellent care since I was admitted for IV drugs. They continued to check on me throughout the week. Although I was in pain about 25% of the time , the rest of the cruise was comfortable and I really did not miss much. It is reassuring to know that excellent medical care is available if needed.
