We expected more of this cruise by
Maria Y. from Asuncin-Paraguay (South America) Sailing date: May 2010Pros: The ports of call. Cons: The ship has a continuously vibration, that did not let us sleep at night This were our second cruise and we can not stop comparing with the first one. (another cruise line)
We had to have dinner 5 nights at the same table in the same restaurant. We would like to go to different restaurants as we did at the other cruise.
The food at The Lido was not good also.
The ship has a vibration that we think comes from motors. The decoration of the cabins is also very poor, the bathroom has a pink color... Ship Qualityit seems to be a very old ship, the carpets were not clean, the lobby decoration gives a very dark look Dining/Foodthe quality of food at Di Lido was not enough Stateroom Qualityhas a vibration all day Ship Staff QualityThe staff at the Universal dining room were amazing Entertainment & Activities
Collapse List of Ports
George Town, Grand CaymanYou have to go to 7 Miles Beach, it cost only USD 5.00 to get there and USD 3.00 to return,
Ocho Rios, JamaicaWas a waste of time going to Mahoney Beach, very small one, it cost USD 15,00 per person plus USD 5,00 to guide plus USD 5,00 to taxi driver. There is also a beautiful beach at the port that costs only USD 2.50 per person to enter.

  Mediocre at best by
Julie C. from Columbus, OH Sailing date: Mar 2010Pros: The food - it was excellent, and we really lucked out with an amazing group for our dinner table Cons: Not enough resources to go around, boring activities for days It seemed like there weren't enough resources to go around--not enough deck chairs, not enough exercise equipment, etc. Everything was uncomfortably crowded and never seemed to open up. It was about 50/50 in terms of quality of ship employees--we met some really amazing and wonderful people, but also ran into quite a few who could care less about customer service. Also felt (vs. other cruises I've enjoyed) that there were few activities planned, they weren't as interesting as they could have been and the fees for activities, spa services, etc. were much more expensive vs. what I've seen in the past. Ship QualityWould have given top rating for cleanliness, etc. except the layout was funky--ship was separated into 3 very distinct sections and you had to walk down the long corridors for cabins to get from section to section--it was like there was no common area way to get from one section to another. Just very strange. Dining/FoodAbsolutely the only factor that saved this trip. Dining staff and food was outstanding. Stateroom QualityWe went for mid-priced on the cabin (an inside room) and were very pleased. Small-ish but not uncomfortably so, clean and comfortable. Ship Staff QualityAbout 50/50 but huge variance--the ones that were good were outstanding, the ones that were bad were painful to deal with and it truly felt like they didn't care one tiny bit about service. Entertainment & ActivitiesDidn't seem like enough was planned, many things not appealing to our 40-ish age group (e.g., song and dance "variety" shows), "nominal" fees for yoga and pilates classes not very nominal. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful.

  A Very Pleasant Cruise by
Howard E from San Antonio, TEXAS Sailing date: Mar 2009Pros: Beautiful surroundings, great staff, very comfortable! Cons: My experience with the Kids Club Great excursions and a beautiful beach stop make this a very nice cruise. The ships daily entertainment is also not bad. An onboard casino, live music everywhere and lots of people watching! My experience with the kids club however left a little to be desired. I'll not go into detail, but it was not good! My child was treated fine. Don't get me wrong, but a situation came up with the staff and myself that could have been handled differently. I was very put off. Ship Quality

The Housing Project of the Seas by
Robbin E. from Hoffman Estates, IL Sailing date: Sep 2008Pros: Departing the vessel Cons: The filthy dated staterooms We sailed on this "vessel" September 21st for a 6 day cruise - the ship was supposed to leave Miami at 4:00 and did not depart until well after 9:00. (No reason provided by ship personnel) - Our "upgraded" balcony stateroom was dirty & dated. There was dried mud on the couch the balcony was so filthy that we were afraid to go out there without our shoes- The elevators nearest to our cabin were out of order for the entire cruise - there was not water in the pool on the day we embarked we took pictures of the empty dry dirty pool. We were greeted by a member of the Fun Patrol upon entering the ship who looked just as tattered and dissheveled as the ship with his dirty wrinkled pants - We should have known then we were destined for the worst cruise ever. There was a large filthy tarp hanging on deck nine just feet from the "buffet" line - Clearly the Food & Beverage director should sail on Royal Carribean or Celebrity to see what an actual buffet should look like - When the buffet has 16 items listed and 9 of them are condiments.... NOT SO GOOD.... . The pursers desk was severly overstaffed and those people that did work there were as helpful as a match in a windstorm. The ship should have not been allowed to sail. This was my first Carnival experience and it will surely be my last - I would not send my worse enemy or in-law on this dump in the seas. There were leaks in the dining areas - we could only imagine where the water was coming from... probably the outdated staterooms. We looked for 30 minutes for the control for the air conditioning unit and found the antiquated dial in the ceiling of the stateroom and wben it turned on spiders came out. - STEER CLEAR OF THIS MESS THEY CALL A CRUISE - Carnival should be ashamed! Ship QualityIf you have to do something with your money BURN it before spending it on this trip! Dining/FoodIf you have ever eaten in a school cafeteria - You have surpassed the dining events on this vessel Stateroom QualityDated and dirty Ship Staff Qualityobvoiusly they just picked up people off the streets and slapped a uniform on them. Entertainment & ActivitiesThank God for Karoke Kay who was the host in the Karoke bar.... she was the highlight of the ship 25 out of 29 people found this review helpful.

Don't Even Think About It by
A Traveler from Chicago, USA Sailing date: Aug 2007Pros: It didn't sink. Cons: Perhaps that it didn't sink. This ship is well past its prime. It's falling apart - literally. There was rust on our balcony and the interior of the suite was a disaster area {see additonal comments}. Forget about this ship. It's ready to be converted to be used as an undersea habitat. Ship QualityThe 'suite' was in disrepair. Dining/FoodIf eating dinner at 5:45 in the afternoon after rushing to get back to the ship, to shower, change and navigate one's way to the dinning room is your idea of a relaxing 'dinner' at sea... great. Otherwise, you can get in line with the unsupervised children and try to get something from the buffet. Stateroom QualityThe suite was poorly maintained. Tiles were falling off in the shower, there was a crack in the basin, there were half a dozen light bulbs out around the vanity/dressing table and we were told they didn't have any to replace 'em with. Ship Staff QualityWhile the Eastern European staff were trying, they couldn't keep up with the filth around the ship discarded anywhere and everywhere by the...ship's passengers {'am being kind here}. Entertainment & ActivitiesThe water slide was not operating four of the days we were onboard. The pools are small, cramed with unsupervised children and adults of dubious sobriety. Children's ProgramsThey didn't appear to have any suitable program for tweens. 29 out of 32 people found this review helpful.

  Beware of Minors by
Daisych from San Carlos, CA Sailing date: Jun 2007Pros: Itinerary Cons: Parties allowed in cabins by minors all through the night. While the itinerary for this cruise was terrific, there were a couple of issues we had. The first is that Carnival allows minors to stay in rooms by themselves and the second is that Carnival allows minors to drink (HEAVILY) on their premises.
We had a lovely balcony room, but across from us (inside) were two teenage boys who not only got their hands on all the alcohol they wanted, they passed out their cabin number as the teenage party spot for the cruise. The second night we actually counted over 40 teenagers hanging out in and just outside of the cabin. Most nights the party ended around 2 or 3am, and one night it last until 4:30am. The first night we called security, they came and asked everyone to disburse. Every night after that, the party moved around (hitting cabin # 8139) every couple of hours throughout the night. Unfortunately, when we called the third night, by the time security arrived, there were only a handful of kids in the cabin and they got real quiet and didnt answer the door. Because of no answer, the security guard knocked on our room. Of course, I was not thinking about my own security at this point and I opened the door. The security guard asked me some questions and then left. After that, the kids came out and yelled some profanities through my door (obviously having watched him talk to me through their door). Needless to say, I had a very unsettling cruise from there on out.
When I went to the security desk the next day, I was told that Carnival did not see this as an issue they had any control over or any responsibility for. Even though I explained to them that each night we would witness the kids carrying off youngsters who were so drunk, they could not have had any recollection whatsoever (yes, they also had the room next door to ours, which is where they tossed the kids who were out cold), Carnival still said that this was such an insurmountable problem, that they would not even begin to be able to do anything about it.
By the fourth day, we saw the older brother, his girlfriend and their parents stop by (all had rooms in very different areas of the ship). Clearly they had booked the rooms so that these kids could have their own space. The brother and girlfriend (probably in their mid to late twenties) knew what was going on, but I dont think the parents did (they only stopped by on the last afternoon to ensure everyone knew they had to leave their bags outside their door that night). I understand that Carnival cannot know when every single person switches a room, but they should do something about it when it is blatantly pointed out to them. On top of this, I dont understand the process by which they would go to the cabin of the person who made the call. They could have called me back or asked me to come to the security desk instead of putting our safety in danger by pointing us out to the offenders.
What frustrated me most was not only the fact that we paid thousands of dollars for this cruise and we didnt get to sleep one single night, but that the folks at Carnival think it is perfectly okay for minors to drink on their premises.
If you have teenagers on this cruise, do not think for a minute they are not drinking (literally chugging alcohol) when away from you. We saw some of these kids with their parents during the day (at breakfast, dinner, on tours etc.) and they were salt of the earth, sweet, conservative people who had no idea about who their sweet children were becoming at night or how dangerously drunk they were getting.
Make no mistake; this is a party cruise for teenagers with Carnival seeing no responsibility of theirs in it whatsoever. If you expect to sleep, or you expect your family to be safe, do not give Carnival your money for this cruise.
